Now, in the mild Italian fall, we propose a seasonal tour, now that the heat is over and the crowds have gone. There are three special reasons to visit Tuscany right now: new olive oil, new wine, and truffles, and hot, natural spas.
In Chianti, around Montalcino or in the warmer Maremma, they are busy harvesting olives, so that the Olio Nuovo, can be tasted an sold between late october and november. There is nothing like tasting the perfumed, golden-yellow olive oil, flowing straight from the press over your bruschetta! It’s the best moment to combine new olive oil tastings with our classic Chianti, Vernaccia, Brunello and Vino Nobile experiences.
Vino Novello is made in few weeks after the september harvest. You get a fresh, fruity, bright coloured, unassuming wine, ready to drink - maybe with the season chestnuts - without much complicate ritual. It is a perfect party, and ice-breaker wine. Several wine towns, following the Beaujolais Nouveau tradition, propose Vino Novello festivals, and dedicated tastings, between November and December, a special free tastings day is November 11!
Tartufi, truffles, truffes, trüffel! Why so much mythology and charme around this elusive mushroom, quite ugly to tell the truth? Because it’s a staus symbol, so hard to find with these funny small dogs, and so expensive? Because of its afrodisiac power ?! Perhaps, because it distillates in a magic way all the fall forest perfumes and essences. Ggrowing slowly underground like a crystal, it evokes some forgotten, seasonal, and ancestral magics.
There is, in reality, more talking about truffles that real experience. In this trip, instead, you’ll see the towns and valleys where the truffles grow, the people, and the dogs that know how to find the. You will taste the fresh, best ones that the season will give, prepared by selected local chefs. You can learn how to choose the truffles, you can taste or buy them at the best rates. The best time to visit the Tuscan truffle towns - San Miniato, Volterra, S. Giovanni d’asso - is right now, only in this season.
Hot springs. Tuscany is rich of natural hot springs. Their waters flow into poools near some of teh more comfortable hotels. Now that the nights are cooler and the days are not that warm anymore, one might enjoy a bath in old Roman style, spending some hours in the pools of our selected spa hotels.
