Naples, first a major Magna Graecia city, then home of five dynasties, displays a rich heritage and the charme of an ancient capital. All around it you discover the jewels that are a must in every Southern Italy tour: Capri, Pompei, Sorrento and the Costiera, or Amalfi Coast. Yet, besides history and the picture-perfect views, Campania is a trove of great wines, and of more or less famous dishes, the cult Gragnano pasta and the Pizza Naoletana - and many other specialties and finger-licking desserts. This new tour of ours is an unique chance for you to experience the atmosphere that fascinated the romantic travellers, as well as the italian food lovers. Between a greek temple, a church or a breathtaking view on the azure sea, you will feel that you are in (one of) the cradles of the Mediterranean cuisine. You will taste surprising good wines, many of which dating back to the early Greek settlers: Aglianico and Ped'e palummo, the impressive Taurasi, Lachrima Christi and the fresh whites: Fiano and Falanghina, Greco and Grechetto. You will be surprised discovering so many flavours and recipes that one rarely finds out of these places.
Our itinerary - suggested 8 days long - is twofold, in order to both visit some classic destinations, and track off the beaten path food and wine trails. The inner region, spared by the mainstream tourism, has a more genuine character, while the more famous locations are definitely busy, but spectacular. We start inland, in Sannio, land of traditions and home of the Taurasi, then we move to Paestum, to see temples and a buffalo farm. Second, we see the Amalfi coast, and Naples city, Sorrento and the Vesuvius with its vineyards, and at last Capri glamorous, and beautiful.
The wines, largerly unknown abroad, cover all the range, and meet every palate and taste: sparkling Asprinio, the fresh whites Fiano, Greco, Falanghina, and then Lachrima Christi, Aglianico, Falerno and Taurasi, reds of increasing power. They boast ancient origins, so that tasting them goes hand in hand with the local history.
